A Potcake is the nickname given to the ferel dogs of The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos Islands because the locals fed the dogs from the bottom of the cooking pot.
The dog population is out of control in the islands with thousands of puppies being without homes. Estimates of the stray population on Providenciales, the largest island of the Turks and Caicos chain, range up to 2000 stray dogs. Past governmental responses to the wild dogs have included shooting and poisoning them. A 2001 government proposal would have introduced canine distemper to the islands as a method to reduce the population.
Potcake Place is a rescue organization working in the islands and they place the Potcakes in homes in the US and Canada.
You can help by being a courier to transport these little treasures to their new homes.
By simply carrying a soft sided bag on to a plane, you can save a life and make a difference. They take care of everything and meet you at the airport with the bag and puppy. The new owner will meet you at the destination airport.
