What if I don’t have enough money to live on? What if I’m bored? What if my spouse doesn’t like me around all of the time? How will I be able to afford my lifestyle? What if I get sick? Can I afford insurance? What if I . . . die?
Retirement used to be a period where you could relax, slow down the pace, play golf, go angling, read a book – simply appreciate life. This was our reward for a job well done.
A few things. Retirement pensions were reduced or eliminated. Stock market 401K’s tanked. People were dying within a few years of retirement because they had no reason to get up in the morning.
People realized the 9-5 work they had been conned into doing for a good portion of their lives was getting corporations fat and leaving workers just scraping to get by. Yet, that final step away from a job or career that we have been doing for 30 years is a big one.
Sooner or later we all have to retire from the 9-5 workplace, but that doesn’t have to mean that you retire from life. In fact, it can be just the start of a very full and meaningful new chapter.
The key to overcoming the fear of retirement is - preparation.
So what preparations can you make to overcome the fear of retirement?
